SOUTH CAROLINA
STATE PLATS : CHARLESTON AND COLUMBIA SERIES
1784-1825
These are copies of the microfilm
rolls of the plats for the state grants from 1784-1825, for the Charleston and
Columbia series. These records are
indexed at the South Carolina Department of Archives site at http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/ --
select the “Plats for State Land Grants 1784 –
1868” record series and search on surnames, placenames
& etc. I will be adding these
records in batches over the coming months, so check back and reload the webpage
to find the most current records available.
To locate a specific person
and/or plat, first go to the SCDAH search page (http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/)
and search in the plats. For example,
the first plat in the first volume of the Charleston Series is for Peter Bremar. Go to the
SCDAH index and search on “Bremar, Peter”. Scroll down the results until you see the
entry:
Series: S213190 |

PETER, PLAT FOR 500 ACRES, SURVEYED BY JOHN PEARSON. View all index terms |

Note that the series is
S213190 – which is the Charleston State Plat Series. The volume is Volume 1, and page is Page
1. So, look below and note that the first
plat group provided is the “Charleston Series, Roll AD600, SCDAH Series
S213190, Volume 1”.
You now have the correct volume that matches the archives index
entry. Now, looking at the table of
pages, the first entry is “Page 1”.
Click the link, and you will go to the plat image for Peter Bremar’s 500 acre tract as surveyed by John Pearson. Note that the SCDAH index states that “No
online image available”, because the archives has completed only the colonial
plat series. Hence the
purpose of this project.
